Explorer Post 710 History

Explorer Post 710 operates under the umbrella of the Boy Scouts of America’s Learning for Life Division and is part of the organization that makes up the Franklin Square and Munson Fire Department.

Our mission is to provide an environment whereby members may build on the principles of responsibility, integrity and citizenship that they have begun to learn at home.  In addition, we would strive to promote skills, leadership and teamwork through instruction in Firematic and EMS duties.  These attributes would enhance their abilities to become future Firefighters wherever their lives take them.  Of course, the skills of leadership and teamwork will work in all aspects of their lives.  We also try to do some community service activities, i.e., Wreaths Across America.

We adhere to the guidelines of the Learning for Life Youth Protection which includes safety regulations, restrictions for training and protective equipment to perform the trainings.  There is a committee of Explorer Advisors that have taken the training required by the Boy Scouts for Youth Protection and there are at least two always present when the Explorers are meeting and training with the Franklin Square and Munson Fire Department.

Our membership is open to all United States citizens between the ages of 14 to 18 who have completed Grade 8 and are currently enrolled in High School and have not as yet graduated.  Applicants must be in good standing with the school and the laws governing Nassau County, New York State and the Federal Government.  Applicants must reside within the boundaries of the Franklin Square and Munson Fire District.

At present we have 13 Explorers, 4 of whom are filling Officer positions.  If you are interested in learning more about this program and meet the membership requirements, we would welcome the opportunity to meet with you and your parents/guardians to answer your questions.  You can contact the Explorer Post 710 Chairperson or any Advisor for an application, Or Apply Online thru the link below.
